Students in Latino America

STEP BY STEP

If you have decided to study in Latin America, but you are not really sure how does everything works, you can fallow these tips, step by step:

You must be sure where you want to stay. Normally the universities offer three options:
- family
- hall residence
- apartment

THE FAMILY

Advantages:

- You will be around people all the day and so you will adapt to the new culture easier. It ist a good option because you have all you need and for the first time it could be very advisable. You won´t be alone and if you if you need help, your new family will do everything for you.

Disadvantages:

- As you don´t know the family till you arrive, you risk that they aren´t as you think, what can disappoint a lot. Sometimes it is not very easy to live with a lot of people you don´t know before. Besides, if you change the family it will be very difficult.

HALL RESIDENCE

Advantages:

- In the residences there will be a lot of people in the same situation as you, so you won´t have any problems. It is a good way to make new friends! And, they probably study in the same university as you.

Disadvantages:

- You should know that your room is okay and that the residence has got all the things you need, also the kind of people there will be staying with you.

APARTMENT

Advantages:

- You can make your things on your own and choose if you want to live with somebody else or not. You musn´t explain nothing! So you can be indepedent and free.

Disadvantages:

- You are alone and so you have a lot of responsibility and you risk that your “new home” is not so good as you thought and / or that you have problems with the neighbours. :P Besides, normally the universities don´t pay the apartments.

TIP! It is very important to know if the university is near o far from your home and if it is a good zone to live with all the things you need, like supermarkets, financial banks, bus stations,…
